Kid, 12, catches giant 8ft tiger shark – on his first ever fishing trip
A 12-year-old caught the catch of his life when he hooked an eight-foot tiger shark on his first ever fishing trip.
Kip Houghton reeled in the colossal beast during a family fishing trip off the coast of Fort Lauderdale in Florida.
The youngster described the battle to land the colossal catch as “the hardest 40 minutes” of his life.
Kip added: “It’s tail was pure muscle. It was just incredible. I can’t describe it.
“It was the hardest 40 minutes of my life.”
Wendy and her son Kip had been out fishing all day without getting a bite.
But just as they began to give up hope of catching anything, a giant splash in the water changed all that.
The charter crew quickly realised that not only had Kip caught something – it was a giant shark.
Shouting “you’re on kid” they quickly helped the 12-year-old reel in the tiger shark and haul it into their boat.
After taking the shark’s measurements, and checking it was ok, they let it go.
And Wendy says the experience has led to her lad now wanting to take up marine biology at university.
She added: “Kip realised he saw fear in the sharks eyes that he brought aboard and release.
“It has solidified his determination to become educated in marine biology, and particularly sharks.
“He is starting an educational website called Tony the Tiger Shark to campaign for shark conservation. The whole incident has been life changing for him.”
The family now hope to make a tiger shark replica to hang on the wall at their home in Melbourne Florida.
