A devoted boyfriend used Karl Pilkington to make a hilarious proposal to his girlfriend- and amazingly she said YES.

When Lee Brickley, 26, decided to propose to his girlfriend of one year, Joanne Bickley, he wanted to do something a little bit different.

To make a real splash, Lee, from Cannock, Staffs, asked the An Idiot Abroad Star to propose on his behalf.

In the 40 second video – which has already had an amazing half a million views online – Karl asks Joanne to marry Lee but doesn’t offer her any advice as “he could be a right lump”.

Despite her bursting into tears, Joanne happily said “YES” when she saw the video on Valentine’s Day on a romantic weekend at Birmingham’s La Tour Hotel.

Romantic Lee said: “Joanne loves Karl and everything he’s been in so I wanted to do something a bit special.

“She didn’t know what to think at first when I started the video.

“Then when he asked her to marry me, she burst into tears and luckily said yes.”

Lee sat on the video for over a month before proposing on February 14 to maximise the romantic effect.

He said: “Karl was a really good sport about it.

“I sent over a couple of persuasive emails to him and he agreed.

“I asked him if he could make it funny for me and told him it was alright to take the mickey out of me.

“I’m just ecstatic Joanne said yes and really grateful Karl took time to do the video.”

The couple are now planning to get married in a couple of years in Las Vegas at an Elvis themed chapel.

Lee said: “Joanne’s family love Las Vegas and it seems really fitting to do it out there.

“We both like the King but there’s no way I’m dressing up as him!”
