Romantic proposal upstaged by photobombing Alpaca
This is the hilarious moment one man’s romantic proposal was upstaged by an ALPACA.
When Kevin Scanlon decided to get down on one knee and propose to fiancée Bethany Rumley, both from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, he made it a moment to remember by staging the proposal at an alpaca farm.
But the last thing he expected during the magical moment at Hidden River Alpaca Farm in Thompson Station was an alpaca muscling in on the photos and stealing the show.
Kevin chose the farm as he’s always loved animals and thought it would be the perfect place to surprise an unsuspecting Bethany.
Photographer John Myers said: “Kevin planned it all and had been waiting to propose to Bethany for a few months.
“He had already been given permission from her family and was just now waiting for the perfect day – Bethany had no idea, she just thought we were shooting a normal family session.”
Alpaca farm owners Teresa and Mark Johnson took their two children Colby and Cooper off for a tractor ride so that Kevin could pop the big question.
Kevin said: Going to the alpaca farm actually wasn’t my idea. The photographer John and I had been chatting about a venue for our ‘family photo shoot’ for weeks.
“One day he called and said ‘Kevin, you’re a weird and quirky guy, how do you feel about proposing at an alpaca farm’?
“Without any hesitation I said ‘I’m for it’!
“Bethany still thought this photo session was really about getting some good shots of my two little boys and a couple shots of us so the Hidden River Alpaca Farm was a perfect disguise for my planned proposal.
“I was a little nervous about proposing but mainly because I knew I wasn’t going to be able to get out the words I wanted to say without crying.
“I was right, as soon as I knelt down and said her name, before I could get anything else out, she started crying and then I did too.
“It wasn’t daunting at all – they are the cutest animals.
“I didn’t think about this until but it was a fitting setting because for the last two years Bethany’s screen saver on her phone has been a selfie I took with an alpaca at a petting zoo.
Bethany said: “It was a total surprise! He had told me for months that he wanted to get some good pictures of the boys and didn’t even know if we were still going to do it.
“Any time I asked him about it, he would tell me ‘maybe’. It wasn’t until a few days before that he told me we were going to the alpaca farm.
“We are huge animal lovers, so I was completely distracted by the adorable alpacas, but when I turned around and saw him on his knees, I totally forgot where we even were.
“He is all I saw and had no idea of what was going on around us.
“John Myers is a wonderful photographer, so we knew the pictures would be great.
“Mercedes the alpaca definitely let her personality shine in the pictures and I think they describe our personality to a tee – we can’t wait to see how the rest turned out.”
