Power couple – Mum sheds pregnancy weight to become body builder, thanks to motivating husband!
This is what you call a power couple – a fitness mum has shed her pregnancy weight to become a body builder thanks to her motivating husband.
Evelien Nellen-van Pelt, 27, and husband, Kevin, 35, from Holland, first met in the gym nine years ago after Kevin complimented her muscular frame.
The pair hit if off straight away and after having their daughter, Anna-Sophie, together, Kevin inspired Evelien to start training in the gym so she could fulfill her dreams of competing on stage.
Now, with a mere 15 per cent body fat, the mum-of-one has competed in 17 competitions in the past year thanks to her supportive husband.
And two months ago, Evelien ditched her day job and is now building her own company called Nellensports – with Kevin’s help they are following their dream to help others achieve their health goals.
Evelien said: “Kevin has always motivated me to fulfill my dreams and cares for our daughter while I compete on stage.
“I couldn’t have done any of it without him and I’m so lucky to have his support.
“We both love the sport so we kind of compete together, whenever I’m in training and dieting for a competition, Kevin is also on diet and vice versa.
“We experiment on new ideas we read about and help eat other push our limits.
“When I started, my weight was about 150 pounds, I now weigh around 120 pounds.
“Kevin used to be a kick boxer and his weight was around 170 pounds but now he’s 250 pounds with his fat below 10 per cent.
“Last year I competed in 17 competitions but my best achievements are winning first place in the Dutch Championships, Ironmaiden and Dutch Grand Prix.
“I even swapped my job as a financial adviser a few months ago to launch Nellensports, with Kevin as the co owner.”
Kevin, who despite being in great shape, doesn’t compete on stage and instead motivates his wife.
He said: “I want to be there for Evelien when she’s in her prep and I need to be there for our little girl, Anna-Sophie.
“Contest preps are busy and they ask a lot from your family life, so it wouldn’t be fair if we both where competing.
“And because Evelien is a far better athlete then I am, it made sense I stepped aside for her.”
Despite Kevin’s support, Evelien has faced criticism from their families.
She added: “At the beginning my family didn’t understand the sport and they were worried I was losing myself in it but luckily now they see we’ve have clear goals, they’ve changed there initial opinion.
“They are now supporting us in our quest of becoming one of the best athletes ever lived.”
The pair claim their secret to success isn’t dieting, it’s eating clean and healthy food and going to the gym four times per week.
Kevin added: “It’s a lifestyle, so we do this the whole year round.”
