Mum-of-two shed 10 stone after her marriage broke down after she tipped scales at 19 stone

A mum-of-two turned heartache into happiness after losing a staggering TEN STONE in weight when her marriage ended.

Nicki Crowe, 29, from Ripley, Derbyshire was determined to turn her life around after her 14-year marriage broke down and instead of comfort eating she hit the gym and lost a staggering TEN STONE.

Nicki, who is mum to seven-year-old Ben and four-year-old Jack, was a huge size 24 and weighed 19 stone at her biggest but after her husband Chris walked out on her she decided to shed the weight and is now a svelte size 10 and 9 stone just a year later.

Nicki said: “The weight had just piled on and I wasn’t interested in looking after myself.

“My boys were my main priority and I had forgotten about me.

“I put myself into a bad routine and I just kept eating- I didn’t care about losing the weight”.

“I had been with my husband since we were 16, and when I was in my early 20s I was a slim size eight. But as more weight went on over the years my appearance changed drastically and I knew in the end I wasn’t as attractive as I used to be.

Tragically Nicki suffered a stillbirth with her first child when she was 21 and the heartache caused her to turn to food for comfort.

Nicki said: “I just didn’t care about myself and would eat convenience food, as well as drinking a lot to cope with the pain.

“I would have McDonalds or KFC for lunch and then a huge takeaway meal with a few beers in the evening. It was a terrible way to be living and I was just getting bigger and bigger.”

After giving birth to Jack and Ben, Nicki was still stuck with her bad eating habits.

She would always make sure her boys were fed healthy meals, but once they were in bed Nicki would unwind with a greasy Chinese takeaway or calorie-laden curry, almost EVERY NIGHT.

Nicki said: “I was stuck in a rut of eating junk and not exercising. When my husband and I split after 14 years, it was the wake up call I needed.

“I was determined to turn my life around and lose the weight. It was the best thing that could have happened.”

Instead of Nicki mourning the end of her relationship, she ditched the takeaways and threw herself into exercise.

Although exercise was something that Nicki wasn’t used to, she soon found that she loved working and as the weight fell off Nicki’s motivation grew.

“I was really enjoying seeing my body shape change and noticing my fitness improve.

“At first I was so unfit I couldn’t even manage a single press up. I was unable to lift my own weight”.

Within the first four months, Nicki lost a staggering four stone and this weight loss only spurred her on to shed more pounds.

But Nicki had outgrown the gym and was seeking more motivation for her fitness regime, so she enrolled with Booticamp Babes boot camp, in Derby.

By ditching the takeaways and attending the military style boot camp sessions, Nicki has managed to shed a further six stone since January.

Nicki said: “My mind was so set on the weight loss and I have so much more energy to look after my boys now. I am really addicted to working out- it’s such a great feeling.

“The instructors at Booticamp Babes have really helped me with my motivation and I now feel like a new woman.

“The style of exercise is just like training to be a soldier, but it’s really intense and a lot of fun.

“The end of my marriage just confirmed that I needed to turn my life around and I am so pleased with my weight loss.

“This is a new chapter for me now and I am the happiest I have ever been.

“My family are so proud of me and my boys are happy that their mum can run around and play with them without getting out of breath.

“I am excited for to see what the future brings for me and I would love to be a fitness trainer professionally- which is something I would never have considered a year ago!”
