Mother gives birth to miracle baby after nine years of trying – and discovering she was pregnant on day she went for IVF consultation
A mother who tried for a baby for nine years discovered she was pregnant the day she was due to start IVF treatment – despite doctors telling her it wouldn’t be possible.
Amber Worth, 26, was told she would never have a natural birth after she suffered a miscarriage and was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries at the age of 19.
But after giving up trying to have a baby naturally, Amber and husband Simon decided to turn to IVF – but on the same day she was due to go to her first consultation meeting, Amber was left stunned when she took a pregnancy test and it came back positive.
With baby Luca celebrating his first birthday next month, Amber’s now been told that her miracle baby boy was made a reality because of the three stone she managed to lose to get in her wedding dress.
She said: “He really is my miracle baby and being his mother is the most amazing feeling.
“I just couldn’t believe it when I found out I was pregnant. I kept waiting for something to go wrong but here we are today.
“I was always the big one amongst friends and I never thought I’d have a baby at all so to have Luca really is special.
“When he was born I just heard this baby crying and then someone told me he was mine and I couldn’t contain myself. I’ve never felt so happy.
“After all that time of desperately wanting a child and thinking it would never happen, here he was.”
Amber started putting on weight when she was 16 after she left school and got a job in a bakery but she dropped from 14st 7lb to 11st 7lbbetween January and March 2014.
She suffered a miscarriage when she was 19 and was then diagnosed with polycystic ovaries – a condition where cysts develop in the ovaries meaning they fail to release eggs regularly.
Amber and her then partner Simon, a 36-year-old retail assistant, set a date for their wedding and a honeymoon in Thailand before they intended to start fertility treatment in 2014.
However, in March 2014, just seven weeks before her treatment was due to begin, Amber discovered she was pregnant after dropping two dress sizes and shedding 3st.
Amber said: “I was so preoccupied on losing weight for my wedding that, for the first time in years, getting pregnant wasn’t on my mind.
“All I could think about was getting into my wedding dress – even when I was getting geared up to start the treatment, the wedding was everything.
“I was getting all geared up to start my treatment and then I found out I was pregnant – I just couldn’t believe it.
“I kept thinking something was going to go wrong and it didn’t seem real until I saw my first scan and my baby on the screen.
“It was then I thought this was actually going to happen. Then, when I had him, I just couldn’t stop crying.
“After all this time, he is here and doctors have told me losing the weight definitely increased my chances of having a child.”
Amber lost the weight by following Slimming World’s food optimising plan – a diet that encourages lots of fruit and vegetables and restricts unhealthier foods to occasional treats.
She said: “The doctors told me there was a very small chance of me ever getting pregnant naturally.
“It seemed everyone had children except me and I had wanted a baby for such a long time.
“I was the only one out of the group of my friends who didn’t have a child and I was always the ‘big one’ when we went on a night out.
“I knew I had to do something about my weight but I didn’t realise what a huge impact it would have on my life.”
