From dance partner to life partner: Acro-dance couple seal stunning performance with surprise proposal
This acrobatic instructor couple sealed a stunning performance with a surprise proposal after a dancing boyfriend decided to deviate from the choreography to brandish a ring.
For Daniel Walsh and Jenny Mahler of Farmington, Utah, dance and acrobatics have respectively held a special place in both of their lives for a near-combined twenty years.
But it wasn’t until they met two years ago that they decided to merge their two worlds.
Performing an incredible sequence in front of their acrobatic students, the dancing duo showcase a series of stunning spins and impressive lifts, before Jenny dips back into Daniel’s arms, provoking a rapturous applause to break out – though the routine is not quite finished for 27-year-old, Daniel.
Reaching into his pocket, the engineering student and dance instructor raises a wry smile as he glances back at the rest of the class, holding up a ring before asking Jenny to marry him, as ‘Only Us’ – from the Broadway musical ‘Dear, Evan Hansen’ – continues to play in the background.
Stunned by the unexpected gesture, Jenny clamps both her hands to either side of her face before declaring ‘Yes’ and throwing herself into her fiancé’s arms.
Hoping to tie the knot in July following February’s proposal, Jenny, who began dancing with Daniel soon after meeting, said: “We met in November 2015, after some mutual acrobat friends invited us to a ski resort to perform some acrobatics.
“Daniel has been dancing since he was 13, with a background in ballroom, and I’ve been a Cirque aerialist for six-years.
“Every week we create a short acrobatic dance to teach our students, breaking down every move for them, step-by-step.
“We choreographed and created this dance a few hours before the class.
“I was so surprised, but also just delighted.
“Acrobatics and dance is such a huge part of what makes us compatible and what makes us feel so lucky to have found each other.
“It’s rare to find a dance partner who can also be your life partner.”
