Jeff Carlson was born with spina bifida, and has been in a wheelchair his entire life.

But when he decided he wanted to climb a mountain, his friend Damien Gilbert came up with an ingenious way of getting him to the top.

Refusing to let his disability stop him from thrill-seeking, Jeff was finally able to see the breath-taking views from the top of Thunder Bay’s tallest peak Mount McKay in Ontario, Canada – when his friends CARRIED him to the top.

Jeff said: “I am an adventurous guy – I have seen pictures of friends climbing the mountain and I thought it needed to be done.

“When I mentioned I had never been there before, Damien figured I needed to experience it – he has been up the mountain several times.

“Damien got a crew together a couple of weeks later.

“I figure just because you have a disability, it doesn’t limit what you can achieve.

“I have always felt that my disability doesn’t limit me to what I can do, so this just kind of reaffirmed that.

“I am really glad I did it, I think everything needs to experience an adventure like that in their lifetime.

“I would love to go up a taller mountain!”

Damien said: “Jeff and I talked about doing the adventure after a picture he’d soon of me on the edge of a cliff.

“I told him ‘I’m going to carry you up there’ – so I did the next month.

“I organised 12 amazing crew members – it wasn’t easy but once we started we weren’t giving up.

“I would definitely do something like this again – it’s such a great feeling to give someone an opportunity that never would have got a chance before.”
