Yo-da one for me! Bride surprises guests by completing first dance as a Stormtrooper!
A bride surprised her wedding guests by dancing as a Star Wars STORMTROOPER alongside Britain’s Got Talent sensations Boogie Storm for her first dance.
Kathryn Holloway, 31, and Philip Wood, 37, stunned friends and family at their wedding in Granada, Spain, in September when they announced the BGT finalists as their reception entertainment.
But guests of the couple, were even more gobsmacked when the routine reached its finale and Kathryn whipped off her iconic white helmet to reveal SHE was one of the five Stormtrooper dancers.
And Star Wars-mad Philip, a chartered accountant, even joined his new wife for an encore dressed as Darth Vader at the knees-up last month.
Kathryn, from Bridgnorth, Shrops, said: “Only two of Phil’s mates knew what we were planning because they were responsible for hiding the Boogie Storm guys while the ceremony was going on.
“Apart from them, nobody else knew, not our parents, my best friends or even the hairdresser who had to fix my hair afterwards.
“We wanted it to be a complete surprise and it definitely was.”
Kathryn, who runs a PR company, and her groom came up with the idea after seeing the Liverpool dance troupe reach the finals of BGT this May.
And Kathryn, who hadn’t danced since leaving school, travelled from Shropshire to Liverpool before the wedding to try on her costume and run through the routine with Boogie Storm.
The dance troupe hid outside the hotel while the couple took their vows, before Kathryn and Phil joined them for a quick change.
After the big reveal, guests were given light sabers to dance with that the couple had brought out with them from the UK.
Kathryn said: “We were watching the show, like most people, on Saturday night and when the guys came on we thought they were brilliant and we saw Simon Cowell’s reaction.
“I just looked at Phil and said ‘that’s what you want for a first dance’.
“So I found them on Twitter, and sent a message asking if they did weddings.
“Even though I like to dance I’m not really a dancer, not since leaving school, and certainly nothing like this.
“The Stormtrooper costumes are really heavy, hot and sweaty, and once you’ve got the helmet on you have very limited vision so it is difficult, but I was determined not to let them or myself down by falling over – and I didn’t want to give the surprise away.
“After having photos taken we ran off for about 15 minutes to get our wedding outfits off and get into the Stormtrooper costumes and then we went through the routine, just like the one they did on the show.”
“We even had two cakes – one regular one, and one groom’s cake in the shape of the Millennium Falcon, with Yoda and Chewbacca cupcakes, which we cut while we were still in our costumes.”
Philip said: “It was just a bit of a joke to start with.
“I’m a big Star Wars fan so she said she was going to try and get in touch, then next thing I knew they’d emailed back and I realised it could genuinely happen.
“I think it was better than we’d planned.
“All the guys, when we were waiting to go on, said they were more nervous than ever because it was our wedding and they wanted us to do really well, they wanted it to be perfect for us.
“But everything just went brilliantly, when you see the video, it’s as though Kathryn is actually one of Boogie Storm.”
