Under the sea! World’s first underwater residence due to open in the Maldives that boasts beautiful 180 degree views
The world’s first underwater residence is due to open in the Maldives where visitors have 180-degree views and will literally be SLEEPING WITH THE FISHES.
The impressive dwelling will allow guests breath taking views of the aquatic life in the Indian Ocean, giving a beautiful snapshot into the underwater world.
Named the Muraka, or Coral in Dhivehi the local language of the Maldives, the spot was developed after a $15 million investment to Conrad Hotels and Resorts.
The undersea bedroom floor that sits five metres (16.4ft) below the surface, provides uninterrupted views of the surrounding marine life and blends into its environment.
It will be open in the last quarter of this year at the Conrad Maldives on Rangali Island, featuring a king size bedroom, living area, bathroom, spiral staircase and bedroom floor under the water.
Ahmed Saleem, chief architect and designer of the undersea residence, formed the ideas for the two-floor, dome shaped residence, intended to camouflage into its surroundings.
Mr Saleem, director at Crown Company, said: “THE MURAKA marks our second venture in underwater architecture and technology, next to Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, which is celebrating its 13th anniversary this month.

The Muraka can accommodate up to nine guests and additionally features a sunset facing deck, gym, butler’s and private security quarters.
