Snow-brainer! Yogis Take Up Chilly New Trend – Enjoying Yoga In The Snow
Yogis have jumped on a chilly new bandwagon – completing a ‘snowga’ class in freezing cold temperatures.
The pioneering class was held at Manchester indoor ski slope Chill Factore yesterday [WEDS] and was taught by former Hollyoaks actress and yoga fanatic, Gemma Merna.
Yoga experts claim practicing the exercise in cold temperatures helps to remove toxins from the body as it forces blood from the skin’s surface to the body’s core and can also reduce inflammation, ease pain, accelerate muscle recovery, boost the metabolism, increase circulation and improve sleep
The trend has already launched in New York but this was the first time the sport has ever been available in the UK
And by end of the class, the yogis were slowly begging to get to snow the ropes…
Gemma said: “Yoga offers so many benefits for your body, mind, and emotional state, and it only increases over time.
“Practicing cold yoga means you have to focus twice as hard on your body’s movements and breathing, establishing a deeper mind-body connection and ultimately leading to a feeling of total wellbeing.”
Manchester Thunder netball player Liana Leota, who also took part, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the change of pace practising yoga in a colder environment.
“If you’re looking to optimise performance, it makes a whole lot of sense to hit cold temperatures for a yoga session.
“It was reassuring to know that class will help recover from hard training sessions, particularly as we’re nearing the end of the season.”
