Pussy footing around: Adorable family cat walks three-year-old boy to and from school to help ease his anxiety

An adorable family cat helps ease her three-year-old owner’s anxiety by walking him to school.

There is certainly no pussy footing around when it comes for moggy Milly Moo to take best friend William Dutton to pre-school.

Three-year-old is usually a confident toddler, but when it comes to meeting new people he is almost crippled by anxiety.

This feeling was magnified massively on the day William started at Maple Tree Lower School in Sandy, Bedfordshire at Easter.

Sensing his nerves and reluctance, Milly Moo sat next to him as he tied his laces to calm him and then amazingly walked with him and Mum, Victoria, to school.

Even more astonishingly, Milly accompanied Vicky, 34, when she went back to pick William up and has done so every school day ever since.

Vicky said: “On that first day William was so nervous he just didn’t want to go.

“But then Milly Moo came over and sat with him while he tied his shoes – I could just see the fear drain away.

“It was absolutely amazing, you could just see that she took his mind off where we were going and all the new people and just focus on her and his shoes.”

Now every day without fail, with her sleek black tail pointing towards the sky, Milly joins William and Vicky on the 13 minute walk to pre-school.

And when it comes to picking him up, Vicky, who is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to her second child, six-month-old Amber, says Milly just knows what to do.

The merchandiser said: “Once we’ve dropped William off, she just goes and does her own thing – normally knocking around in the garden.

“Once it gets to 3pm though, there she is, ready and waiting to join me on our walk.

“It’s as if she has a built-in alarm clock!”

Milly Moo is Vicky’s first cat, but she was persuaded to take her in by husband, Simon, 40.

It’s perfectly normal now, but before William was born, Vicky says Milly Moo was quite an aloof pet.

The black and white tabby didn’t really pay too much attention to people until Vicky fell pregnant and she used to stroke her paw on the mum’s baby bump.

Vicky said: “It was as if she knew I was pregnant and wanted to protect me.

“She’s just taken that on since William was born and protects him too – she’s his best friend.”
