Groom Pranks bride and best man on wedding day in hilarious “forgot the rings” ‘wedding prank!’
A groom left his bride standing at the altar during their wedding ceremony and dashed out of the church as part of an elaborate ‘forgotten the rings’ prank.
The church wedding appeared to be going off without a hitch, until half-way through the ceremony, trickster groom Stuart Kettell fooled his bride, best man and wedding guests into thinking he’d forgotten the rings.
Believing the wedding couldn’t go ahead without them, guests watched in shock as Stuart ran out of the church leaving his bride-to-be Vicky, and best man Robert Kettell, standing at the altar.
But as soon as the church door slammed behind him a screen dropped down at the front of the church showing a pre-recorded video of Stuart making an epic journey home to retrieve the rings.
Wearing his full wedding attire, Stuart, 52, can be seen running down the lane outside the church before hitching a ride across a field on the back of a tractor.
He then cycles through his hometown of Coventry on a penny farthing, runs through a field full of sheep and steals a boat in an almost James Bond style race to retrieve his rings.
Wedding guests can be seen eagerly watching Stuart’s journey unfold as he then commandeers a little girl’s bicycle, travels by scooter and pogo stick before arriving home, to realise he’s forgotten his house keys.
Luckily he climbs through the window, retrieves the rings, hops in a taxi and makes it back to St John the Baptist Church in Berkswell – all in time to say ‘I do’.
Prankster Stuart from Coventry, UK, is known for his mad-cap adventures and has completed a number of mad-cap fundraising challenges, one of his most bizarre saw him push a sprout up Mount Snowden with his nose.
Stuart, a father-of-five, said he had been planning on playing a prank on his wedding day from the moment he proposed to his now wife, Vicky, 39.
He said: “People would have been expecting me to do something on my wedding day, so I knew I had to think of something.
“I decided it would be a good thing to prank my brother and best man Robert.
“I’d told his before the service not to worry about the rings and that I would bring them to the church.
“So when I claimed to have lost the rings at the altar I think he knew I was pulling his leg and some of the guests in the church started to giggle.
“But when the vicar said the service couldn’t go ahead without the rings and I ran out of the church I think the guests though, ‘oh no this could actually be for real’.
“I’d already told Vicky I was going to do something at the wedding and so if anything happened I told her not to panic.
“Initially I was going to do it during the speeches but I thought that would be too obvious, so I spoke with the vicar, Mark Bratton, to see if I could get him on board and do it during the service.
“Luckily when I explained my plan he was fully on-board.
“I filmed it all a week before the wedding, it was really fun and the guests loved it, it was a real talking point of the day.”
Wife Vicky said she knew Stuart had something up his sleeve for the day but had no idea he’d go to the lengths he did.
She said: “I knew he was doing something, that’s just what Stuart is like.
“He’s known for the wacky things he does so I’m not shocked by many pranks he pulls.
“But I didn’t know what the prank was or that it would be during the ceremony.
“Stuart’s brother Robert, is always playing pranks on him so for Stuart this was ultimate pay back and his brother really fell for it.
“The vicar agreeing to take part made it all the more authentic.
“The best bit was just watching the shocked looks on everyone’s faces, it was really funny just seeing how petrified they looked.
“I think because it was during the vows and in a church, no-one expected this could be a prank, so when Stuart ran out of the church people looked genuinely worried about what was going to happen next.
“But as soon as the video kicked in, everyone was falling about laughing.
“It was a real highlight and talking point of the day.
“I think Robert is already planning his revenge though.”
