Evel Kin-Evil: Family of four perform dangerous stunts like being set on fire together
Forget Evel Knievel the Stannage family are more like Evel Kin-evel as they perform high octane stunts together.
Daredevil dad Mark, 45, is joined by wife Janine, 48, their 20-year-old son Aaron and his girlfriend Megan Murphy, 19, as they set fire and blow each other up on a daily basis.
Proving that the family that sets each other on fire together, stays together, the fearless foursome have been performing for the last 11 years.
Since starting International Stannage Stunt Team over a decade ago, doting Mark has set fire to his beloved wife more than 150 times.
Mark, from Barnsley, South Yorks, said: “Of course this job is dangerous, but as family we all trust each other to be safe.
“We’re really close I think this helps bring us together.
“We set each other on fire, jump off 52ft tall poles, the lot.
“In one stunt the exploding coffin they blow me up with a load of fireworks while Aaron jumps through the explosion on a motorbike.”
The family fit their performances and practice around Mark and Aaron’s full time jobs incredibly as fire safety officers.
Mark said: “We’re probably in a good position to advise other people as we set each alight a lot.
“We work for different companies but we both go around the country advising people about their alarms and exits.
“The stunt industry is seasonal, but you still have to pay the mortgage somehow.”
After an incredible stroke of fate, an Evel Knievel obsessed Mark joined a stunt team at the age of 14.
He said: “I told my careers teacher I wanted to be a stunt man.
“Initially he told me to get a proper job.
“But then he told me to do a project on it to see how serious I was.
“On the way to school I was reading my project and not paying attention.
“I got hit by a car only on the hand and turned to see a stunt car driving off.
“There was a name and number, so after school I went to see him.
“He apologised to me and then I showed him my project.
“He was so impressed he offered me a job, and I started the following Monday.”
Subsequently Mark joined James Dylan’s Stuntworld at the age of 17.
He met Janine in 1991 and the pair married soon after, going on to have Arron in 1995.
With very little encouragement, Aaron followed in the family’s footsteps and started riding bikes in the show at the age of three.
Mark said: “We never wanted to push him in to stunts.
“His interest peaked at age three and he started riding bikes then.
“At 14 he set the first world record for the longest bicycle wheelie in one hour.
“He travelled 8.17 miles in that time we were so proud of him.
“It’s one of two world records we have in the team.”
The family take their breath-taking stunts around the world, and have travelled all across Europe and the Middle East for shows.
They have only just been joined by Aaron’s girlfriend Megan who has joined in being set on fire with Janine.
Mark said: “At some point I’m going to hang up my fire-resistant suit and pass the baton to Aaron.
“Hopefully any grandchildren we have would like to follow in our footsteps.
“It would be great to start a daredevil dynasty.”
