Carbon copy! Museum houses rocks that are spitting images of celebs
Stone the crows! A museum in Japan is housing a bizarre collection of celebrity lookalikes – all made from STONE.
Exhibits include pebbles which feature everyone from Elvis – the king of rock and roll – to Jabba the Hut – and even features one pebble that looks just like the crying face emoji.
The Chichibu Museum of Rare Stones, in Chichibu City, Japan, opened its doors 27 years ago and now features a collection of 700 ‘faces’.
The museum’s first director, Shoji Hayama, collected the stones over a 50 year period at the nearby Akawara river.
After his death, his daughter, Yoshiko Hayama, took over both his museum and his passion for stones.
Yoshiko said: “We have many rare stones on display.
“Everyone wants to see the human stone faces. We have those, the viewing stones, and a few fossils.
“We have around 700 human face stones.
“My father gathered them together. He started when he was in his 40s until just before he reached the age of 90, so it took him about 50 years.
Among the most popular stones are Elvis Presley, John F. Kennedy, a storm trooper, and even Micky Mouse.
Yoshiko said: “My father’s thoughts fill the stones. So putting them away felt like a waste.
“And I like talking to the visitors. That’s why I’m here.”
