The wind cries… Money! Jimi Hendrix first guitar played in the uk sells at auction for over £5k

The first ever guitar that Jimi Hendrix played in the UK has sold at auction for £5952.
The guitar that the rock-legend was set to play at his first UK gig, after his Stratocaster malfunctioned, was leant to him by musical friend Zoot Money.
But after trying the late 1950’s Wandre Italian ‘Fetish’ guitar, the notoriously left-handed guitarist decided not to use it despite saying it had a ‘nice easy action’.
He then went on to play his infamous UK debut that evening.
Now after 50 years, the guitar was sold yesterday at auction by Gardiner Houlgate, in Wiltshire, to an online European buyer.
Luke Hobbs, 31, Auctioneer, said: “Jimi Hendrix was more of a Strat man, so when he tried Zoot’s guitar it just wasn’t for him.
“He had bought his Strat over from America for the show, but we believe it malfunctioned at Zoot’s apartment.
“That’s when Zoot offered him this guitar, so Jimi plugged it in and played it.
“I’d imagine that he would’ve just been noodling around on the guitar, but Hendrix declined using it and I believe he managed to get the Strat up and running again after failing to find other options.
“But it was the first guitar he ever played in England.
“Zoot decided to sell the guitar because he wanted to let it go on to a new house.
“He’s getting to an age himself and has no one to leave it behind to, so he wanted it to go onto a new buyer and put the money away for a rainy day.
“I’m a huge fan of Jimi Hendrix myself and a guitarist, and I wish I could’ve bought it – but I don’t have that kind of money!”
