Australian town becomes scarecrow capital of the world
If there was a straw poll for the world’s best scarecrow competition this Aussie community might win it.
The Central Coast region, in New South Wales, Australia, has been staging a bizarre homage to all things scarecrow since 2008 with enthusiastic locals all joining in to be voted best in scare-show.
And this year certainly doesn’t disappoint with celebrities like larger derriere’d Kim Kardashian making an appearance as well as the boy wizard Harry Potter under a new name ‘Scary Potter’.
Other favourites this year in the competition – which is part of the Yarramalong Valley Spring Festival – are the ‘Wizard of Aus’ and Star Trek characters Jim Kirk and Spock.
The scarecrow part of the festival started on Saturday August 27 and will run until Sunday September 11 and entry is listed as $20.
Categories for prizes are ‘traditional’ and ‘humorous and creative’, which are judged by a panel, and the ‘Peoples Choice’ which is that voted for on the website http://www.yarramalongvalleyspringfestival.com.au/
