A Truly Hair-raising Experience: Bizarre Contest Rewards The Craziest Frozen Hair Styles Of The Year
Entrants in this unique competition truly had a hair-raising experience, as it celebrates the very best in FROZEN HAIR STYLES.
Aptly named the International Hair Freezing Contest, the competition takes place at the resort of Takhini Hot Springs, in chilly Yukon, Canada, every year – and this year’s winners have just been announced.
Featuring in the winning selection – which includes Best Group, Best Male, Best Female, and Most Creative – were the likes of frozen beards and even vibrant numbers involving hair dye.
The contest has been running since 2011, and it is judged by husband and wife owners Andrew Umbrich and Lauren O’Coffey.
Andrew, who judged the winners on March 6, but just released the results, said: “Generally speaking, the more that the hair defies gravity by being frozen horizontally or vertically, the more impressive it becomes.
“We do not keep the judging criteria too rigid because every year we are surprised by the creativity of many contestants.
“We are still waiting for someone to enter with a crazy wig – it hasn’t been done before and it isn’t a disqualifying factor.”
When selecting the winning images, Andrew said he looks for the ‘wow factor’.
The winner in each category receives $750CAD (£429GBP) and a complimentary 30 soak membership.
Andrew added: “Only a thin crust of frost is formed on the hair.
“No hair will snap, break, or suffer damage – at least it hasn’t happened yet.”
