Twisted mum whose evil boyfriend raped her daughter steals the 22k owed to her in compensation – and blew it on a luxury wedding

A mother whose boyfriend raped her daughter and got her pregnant when she was just 11 has stolen £13,000 of compensation owed to her after the ordeal – and blew it all on a luxury wedding.

Brave Chantelle Jones, 21, from Cinderford, Gloucestershire became Britain’s youngest mum after being raped by stepdad Russell Tovey aged just 11.

But now her own mum, Beverley Bale, 45, has been convicted of nicking more than £13,000 of a £22,000 compensation settlement meant for Chantelle.

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board awarded Chantelle total compensation of £22,000 – £16,500 for her rape ordeal and another £5,500 for the pregnancy.

But the money was paid in trust to Beverley because Chantelle was still under 18 – and over the next few years Beverley spent a whopping £13,000 of the cash.

Chantelle claims the money was used to pay for Bev’s lavish wedding with boyfriend Adrian Bale, 53.

She said: “Mum’s a barmaid and Adrian’s unemployed but they spent at least £10,000 on their wedding.

“They paid for everyone’s bridesmaids dresses and hired out one of the nicest venues in the area. It was a real slapstick do.

“I did wonder where they’d got the money from but it didn’t properly occur to me that she could have stolen it from me – I still can’t quite believe it.

“It makes me feel sick.”

Beverley pleaded guilty to the theft and was sentenced to 16 months jail suspended for two years and was also ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work.

Evil Russell Tovey was jailed for 11 years in 2006 after admitting two counts of rape at Gloucester Crown Court.

Chantelle had little contact with her mum after Tovey’s sentencing in 2006 but when she turned 21 in December, she contacted her asking for the balance of the compensation.

A couple of days later she went to her home and asked about the money.

Beverley later told her and told her the money would be in her account a few days later but only £9,000 was paid in and the £13,000 balance was never received.

Chantelle said: “We didn’t have a good relationship at all so I was suspicious anyway but it was still hard to stomach.

“As soon as there was a delay I feared the worst but to see just £9,000 put in the bank really was the final straw.

“This has just topped everything off to be honest. Life’s not been kind to me at all. I’m livid.

“I just want to get on with it now and put it all behind me now but it’s hard to take. I wanted to set up my own business and start a nail and beauty salon and even learn to drive but that’s going to be difficult now.

“It’s horrendous. My life’s just one disaster to the next.”

Beverley admitted to police she had spent the money in breach of trust blaming it on financial difficulties.

Chantelle was raped by Russel Tovey, Beverley’s boyfriend at the time, on two occasions at her home between May and July 2005.

Speaking about the rape, Chantelle said: “Mum and dad had divorced when I was ten and I was I was devastated about dad leaving.

“Mum met a new guy and within about three weeks he had moved into our home.”

Tovey would take Chantelle and her two brothers out on day trips and outings to the park and watch the children while Bev was at work as a barmaid down at the local pub.

Chantelle said: “Mum was at work when the abuse started.

“It happened on two occasions.

“I wasn’t mature at all, I was just a little girl and I didn’t know what was going on.

“He made it clear that if I was to tell anyone he would hurt me- he already used to hit me so I knew he was serious.

“I was terrified.”

Chantelle, who was then 12 years and three months, gave birth on March 9, 2006, at Gloucester Royal Hospital to a 5lb 14oz baby – making her Britain’s youngest mother.

Chantelle said: “My family had been kept out of the picture about what had really happened but when my baby was born I could see the shock on their faces.

There was no mistaking who the dad was – my baby was the spitting image of him.

“Within hours, police swarmed our house- I remember so many police cars and the social services were there as well.

“They arrested him on suspicion of rape.

“My mum was in complete denial about it.”

Chantelle claims that Beverley spent most of her time visiting Tovey in hospital rather than caring for Chantelle with her young baby.

She said: “My baby was my bundle of joy and mum and dad took turns staying with me. They split their time between visiting us but mum would always prioritise seeing him.

“She was in complete denial about it. I’ve never seen someone cry so much and cut such a blank.

“Because of what happened I didn’t have a childhood. I love my baby more than anything in the world, but I needed time to be a child.”

Chantelle eventually went back to school and for a few years as she balanced schoolwork with changing nappies, with support from her mother.

But eventually things got too much and her relationship with Beverley completely broke down and Chantelle, 14 at the time, was put into foster care with her baby.

She said: “My family couldn’t look at my boy without thinking of Tovey. I was able to see past it and I loved him for being my child but no-one else could.

“It was hard because in foster care I had to be a proper full time mum but, at the same time, I had to go to school and I just couldn’t cope.

“I will never forget that last day. We went to a farm park and had a fantastic day and then my baby was put in the back of a social services car.

“It broke my heart. I haven’t seen my child since.”

She is now in a loving relationship with her partner Maxwell Hodges, 28, who knows about her past and has helped her work through her problems.

Chantelle said: “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. He is so supportive, even when I have mood swings or cry tears for my son.

“I have had trouble trusting men because of what happened but Max has been with me every step of the way.

“I have only just been able to go out in the dark and have a shower as I would panic every time.”

Chantelle writes and receives yearly letters from her child and she hopes one day they will meet again.
