Pregnant woman horrified to find dead lizard floating in tinned tomatoes
A pregnant woman was horrified after finding a dead lizard floating in a can of tomatoes.
Shocked Sanam Hussain – who is seven months pregnant with her second child – was making lunch when she made the grisly discovery.
While making curry for husband, Muhammad, and their 15-month-old son she spotted the green, scaly reptile face down in the Euro Foods tomatoes.
Muhammad – who was alerted to the creature by his wife’s screams – said the sight of the lizard had made Sanam feel ill.
Muhammad said: “Sanam was making lunch for me and our 15-month-old son.
“When she opened the can, she saw something and screamed.
“When I looked, I saw it was a dead baby lizard.
“We are really worried about food poisoning.
“The can was part of a pack of 12 and we had already eaten seven of them.
“This has really put Sanam off her food.”
Muhammad said they had bought the cans at Masala Bazaar – an Asian supermarket owned by Euro Foods – near their home in Birmingham, West Mids.
Euro Foods said it had contacted its Italian supplier to find out how the lizard got into the tin.
A spokesman said: “This is a major concern.
“We have gone back to the factory to see how something like this could have happened.
“Until that happens I can’t comment any further.”
