Shocked Sanam Hussain – who is seven months pregnant with her second child – was making lunch when she made the grisly discovery.

Muhammad said they had bought the cans at Masala Bazaar – an Asian supermarket owned by Euro Foods – near their home in Birmingham, West Mids.

Euro Foods said it had contacted its Italian supplier to find out how the lizard got into the tin.

A spokesman said: “This is a major concern.

“We have gone back to the factory to see how something like this could have happened.

“Until that happens I can’t comment any further.”
