A pensioner has told how half her garden fell 40ft into a river after a violent storm swept it away. Patricia Howe, 72, told how she had walked back into her home in Wetheral, Cumbria, from the shed at the end of her garden. But when she looked out of her kitchen window five minutes later, it had disappeared along with a third of her garden into the raging River Eden below last Sunday.
