Oh no-op! Dozy contractors at Co-op make a ‘Rihgt’ spelling gaffe on road
Dozy contractors were left red-faced after they managed to paint ‘rihgt turn’ on the road off a supermarket car park.
The blunder had shoppers laughing on Friday morning before sign painters were rushed back to correct their gaffe six hours later.
Stickler for spelling, Eric Hill spotted the wrong turn near the pet shop he owns in Warsop, Notts, and snapped a picture in disbelief.
Eric, 64, said: “As soon as I went through the car park it jumped out like a sore thumb.
“I don’t know how professionals manage to make mistakes like that – they must have had a moment of madness!”
The sign outside the Co-op on High Street, Warsop, directs shoppers out of the car park onto the road.
But instead of giving drivers the right directions the sign read ‘rihgt turn’.
A Spokesperson for The Co-operative Food said: “We have spoken with our contractors and the spelling mistake was corrected later the same day.”
But Eric still thinks it was laughable.
He said: “I’ve got a shop just opposite and I was in my van when I saw it – I couldn’t believe it.
“I had to go and do a delivery and just hoped that it would still be there to get photographic evidence when I got back.
“To be fair to them it wasn’t long before they corrected it – they were there at 9am and by 3pm they were back covering it up.
“There were lots of people walking by and none of them seem to have noticed it either but it certainly caused a lot of smiles to everyone I showed the picture to.”
