Loo’ve got to be kidding! Gatwick Airport crowned Britain’s best loo
If you’re heading to Gatwick to go on holiday be sure to use the toilet, as the airport has Britain’s best LOO.
The major airport – which sees off 40 million passengers a year – wowed judges on the hunt for the UK’s best toilets.
Its competitors were left down in the dumps as none of them proved a match for Gatwick’s luminous green splash-backs – even though a rival loo included a MICROWAVE.
The airport won Platinum Awards for each of its 13 entries, making it the first airport to nab Overall Loo of the Year.
Mike Bone, managing director of the awards, said the South London airport submitted ‘exceptional’ entries.
Other contenders included Asda, Bluewater Shopping Centre, Heathrow, intu, and J D Wetherspoon – the latter winning the In-House Cleaning Team Trophy.
Toilet attendant Baba Sechan, of Birmingham company We Clean, also became the first person to claim the Individual Attendant Trophy for the second year in a row.
The awards are in their 29th year, although this was the first year an airport has won the main award.
Mike said: “Gatwick airport first entered Loo of the Year Awards in 2015 with two entries in the South Terminal and won the National Category Award for England in the Airports Category and the UK and Ireland Market Sector Award for Transport.
“All of their 2016 entries were exceptionally clean and well maintained.
“Gatwick work closely with their cleaning contractor ISS to ensure that the highest toilet cleaning standards are maintained despite coping with the needs of more than 40 million passengers each year.”
Local authorities were also lauded at the event, with Mid & East Antrim Borough Council and Oxford City Council receiving praise for the standard of their loos.
The winners were selected from entries in 60 entry categories across all market sectors.
