Lock him up and throw away the keys! Man wakes up with bike lock stuck around his neck
This poor soul woke up with a steel bike lock stuck around his neck after friends pranked him while he slept and then lost the keys.
The unnamed 20-year-old was taken to Coventry Fire Station by his angry mother where the bike lock was cut away with an angle grinder by the fire crew.
The crews’ regular gear was not good enough to cut through the metal and they were forced to summon an angle grinder stored 12 miles away.
Station commander Pete Drummond said: “I went into the engine house and found this young guy with a massive lock round his neck.
“The crews were eventually forced to call in angle grinder to eventually cut through the bike lock – his mother did not look pleased.”
Firefighters first tried to remove the lock with a set of small hydraulic pedal cutters but the lock damaged the blade.
They then tried a reinforced bar cutter but that just dented it.
At that point the technical rescue team were called in from Bickenhill and they used an angle grinder to eventually cut through the bike lock.
Pete Drummond said: “I’ve never seen it spark like that. It’s designed to cut through railway tracks and it doesn’t spark much then – it was incredible.”
