Je suis Charlie: Scunthorpe fancy dress shop join hordes of British shops selling Charlie Hebdo magazine
A Scunthorpe fancy dress shop has joined the hordes of British shops selling the new Charlie Hebdo magazine.
Matthew Stephenson, co-owner of Celebrate, will sell 100 copies of the new issue of the French satirical magazine.
The 43-year-old, who has been running the store for three years, said there has been massive interest already from customers.
The new issue goes on sale in the UK on Friday, two days after 500,000 sold out almost instantly in France.
Matthew, 43, said: “The magazine has caught the imagination of the world.
“I have managed to get 100 copies to collect at 7am on Friday (January 16).
“I think the most satirical thing about this is I’m getting these copies legally via a third party who just so happens to be a Muslim.
“Lots of customers have shown an interest in buying a copy. I believe they are as curious as I am to see it.”
“I’ve always been a huge fan of satire and subscribe to Private Eye.
“In the 1990s, I used to write a fanzine called Cream which was distributed around North Lincolnshire.
