Fighter jet looks dangerously close to busy road in nail-biting snap

This Belgian fighter jet appears to be just a few feet away from cars as it races over a busy road in the Cambrian mountains.

In the nail-biting snap, the Belgian F16, which can travel at speeds of up to 400 miles per hour, looks as though it’s flying dangerously close to the traffic in Cadair Idris.

But despite the nerve-wracking scene, the photographer, who did not want to give his name, said fast jets were allowed to drop to 100 feet at designated times and the perspective of the shot probably made it look lower than it actually was.

He said: “My initial impression was wow that’s low.

“The jet seems very close to the road and shouldn’t be flying at under 250 feet.

“Fast jets can go down to 100 feet at designated times so it may well have been one of those times.

“It’s not too uncommon to see RAF jets fly that low but it was great to see a foreign jet go really low.

“As I knew the jet was coming it wasn’t pot luck on capturing this F16, I just had to try and decide where the best vantage point would be. I’d been on the hill all day.

“I didn’t use any special technique other than trying to keep the jet in the centre of the frame, which is no easy task when it’s doing 300 to 400 miles per hour.”
