Dramatic moment man waving 10-inch knife in city centre spotted on CCTV
This the horrifying moment a man was caught on camera waving a 10-INCH KNIFE in a city centre.
The silver-haired man – who appeared to be swaying and waving the blade around wildly – was spotted around 11pm last night (TUES) in Piccadilly Gardens, central Manchester.
Greater Manchester Police raced to the scene as the man could be seen gesticulating and pointing the weapon at nearby bus passengers.
A CCTV operator called police and within two minutes a brave officer can be seen tackling the man to the ground.
A 55-year-old man was been arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in police custody for questioning.
Inspector Ian Fields, from Greater Manchester Police, said: “This incident reflects exactly the kind of threat officers face on a day-to-day basis.
“For whatever reason, the man was waving an intimidating weapon around late at night, causing considerable concern and alarm to those members of the public in the area.
“Officers arrived within minutes and resolved the situation, ensuring no harm came to the wider public, the man or the officers themselves.
“Every day we respond to dangerous incidents involving potentially dangerous individuals who can be armed with deadly weapons and so the bravery of those involved and their determination to resolve this incident swiftly and safely should be highlighted and commended.”
