With great power comes great responsibility! Artist paints marvel comic heroes and villains on spider cobwebs
This amazing Spiderman artwork has been painted on freshly spun COBWEBS.
Former arachnophobe Cristiam Ramos regularly hunted for and collected two basketballs worth of spiderwebs to form a single sheet.
The award-winning artist spent four days carefully gathered the web using a stick, pressing the threads together to create the canvas before painting the Marvel characters on it using acrylic and oil paints.
Cristiam, 36, said: “I’ve always liked Spiderman and dreamed of being able to make my own comic.
“As an artist I wanted to find a material other than paper that related to the subject.
“I’ve found cobwebs to be a very durable material that no-one else had used before in this way.”
Cristiam, who was born in Mexico City and now lives in Florida, admitted that he didn’t always like spiders.
He said: “As a kid I was afraid of spiders but it then turned into a fascination with them.
“You could say I am a real life Spiderman as I have some ‘super powers’ including creating artworks in such an unusual material that many wouldn’t have believed possible.” CHECK
He was inspired to create the unusual canvas after reading an old Spiderman man comic, nodding off and having bad dreams that his entire body was covered in spiders.
This isn’t the first time Cristiam has used unusual objects in his artwork, having created pieces using materials including toothpaste, candy, nail polish and even real butterflies.
The collection features Spiderman fighting famous enemies including Dr Octopus, The Lizard, Electro, Venom, Carnage, Green Goblin, Rhino, Sandman, Dr Doom, Vulture and Mysterio.
Cristiam said: “Making art with cobwebs is something totally new and different from what I’ve done before.
“It was very hard to collect the material but it was a great challenge and a great experience for me.”
