Dad paints dream Disney bedroom to turn little princess into sleeping beauty!
A supermarket worker gave his daughter the bedroom of every little girl’s dreams – when he decided to help her sleep at night by hand painting her own Disneyland.
Genie-us Yorkshire dad Adam Hargreaves has become an internet sensation after winning the bedtime battle with his three-year-old daughter Bobbie with a spectacular wall mural – that even glows in the dark.
Overwhelmed by the reaction to his viral video, Adam, 27, hopes to pack in the day job of stacking shelves to take his ‘hobby’ full-time.
Adam said: “She was speechless – she didn’t know where to look or what to do, she said, ‘Thank you Daddy for my beautiful bedroom’.”
Adam’s wife Leah, also 27, said: “I love it, she’s going to bed every time now.
“It’s never been a job as such, just been a hobby for friends and family.
“Now we’re going down the route of it becoming a full time job because we’ve had such a big response.”
Bobbie is clearly not the only one to have been left speechless at her dad’s artwork – as the time-lapse video of Adam’s amazing artwork has already 10 million views.
Supermarket worker Adam has always loved art and has dabbled in it since school, but only ever as a hobby decorating for friends and family.
It was five years before kitchen designer Leah discovered her husband’s handiwork when she came home one day, horrified to find he had painted a room.
Adam said “After Leah stopped telling me off for painting the house she was saying how impressed she was and how she had no idea!”
Leah said: “He sort of kept it hidden, it wasn’t until he painted a wall in a bedroom in our last house that I found out.
“I wasn’t happy at first but I saw it and told him to do the rest of the house!
“We’re now looking into getting him sorted and making Bespoke Art his job – it’s scary but exciting and I’m a bit dubious as to whether it’s just a craze or not so I’m staying level headed.”
When he left school Adam felt becoming a full-time artist was beyond him, but the world’s reaction to his video has given him the confidence he needed.
Adam said: “Working self-employed is something I have been building towards, I’ve been wanting to take it forward and build a portfolio which I think I have got one now.
“Disney characters are something I get asked to do a lot. I’m quite versatile though with what I can do, the most bizarre thing I’ve done is a completely ultraviolet living room which is basically invisible in the day and comes to life at night.
“I can’t put a price on how much paint it costs to do a room like this because I’m always mixing different colours so it’s hard to work out what I’ve used.”
Giving his daughter her own taste of Disneyland was no overnight idea for Adam – who finally put brush to wall when getting Bobbie to bed at night became no easy task.
Adam said: “I’d been planning to paint her room for about two years but the painting itself took around three months or 300 hours to be precise.
“It’s quite relaxing, time just passes a lot faster because you’re concentrating.”
