Bodypainter creates torso-bending optical illusions on models’ bodies
A talented bodypainter has created a series of mind-bending illusions that cover entire torsos.
Natalie Fletcher’s works are enough to make people double-take, the spiralling patterns of some appearing to fade into the abyss.
In other works, the artist’s designs look as though they are never ending, while some show body parts appearing to protrude from models’ chests.
The idea behind the ongoing series came to Natalie, 30, as a means of keeping entertained during the winter months.
Most of her works are carried out outdoors, but to avoid the winter blues, Natalie decided to go with a much darker series of indoor works.
Featuring mainly male models, Natalie revealed each painting takes her, on average, around three hours to complete.
Natalie, from Portland, Oregon, USA, plans to continue her illusion project into the future.
She said: “I was inspired by optical illusions – I’ve always been intrigued by the trick of the eye and the bending of the mind, the idea of something can be differently than how you first perceive it.
“Body art is already an illusion, so I thought I’d take it a step further. It’s definitely a change from what I normally do.
“The nice thing about this series is it’s much more relaxed than working outdoors.
“We can drink beer and take breaks and not worry about the sun changing at every second.”
