Woman and cheetah share special friendship
Forget man’s best friend – this is woman’s best friend! This adorable friendship between a woman and a CHEETAH will melt your heart.
The cute snaps were taken by Julia and Jean Wimmerlin, from Switzerland, during a stay at Lapa Lange Lodge in Namibia.
The spotted cats were in a playful mood as they bounded around like kittens with their new pal.
Julia, 39, said: “I love animals, especially big cats – I have two cats at home.
“Meeting cheetahs was on my bucket list whilst visiting Namibia as they have one of the highest concentrations of them in the wild.
“The lodge has three cheetahs that they received as orphans, from a farmer who killed their mother.
“The cheetahs grew up like kittens around people, and they were allowed to walk everywhere around the estate until they grew up.
“These cheetahs are used to people, and are very kind – but they are still big wild cats.
“It was the afternoon when I photographed them – they were very lazy and mostly wanted to sleep in the shade.
“But I assumed that like any cat they are playful – and I was right.
“I had some feathers and a string with me, which we used to make a big cat’s toy – it worked wonders.
“There were scary moments when they would run towards you at full speed – you hope it just wants to play with the feathers, but that’s when you realise the power of these wild animals.
“The cheetahs were very calm and purred most of the time – they were happy to be touched and very curious.
“I spent all afternoon with them, and that night I dreamt of cheetahs – it was so amazing to see them so close, to touch them, hear them, see them eat and fight – and then you realise how lucky you are not to be their pray!
“It was my first experience with cheetahs, and I would do it again any time.
“It was just a fun and beautiful thing to do – being so close to these majestic animals is such a joy.”
