Stunning images show wild horses as they gallop through lagoons

A photographer captured these stunning wild horses as they galloped through the lagoons in the south of France.

Taken by wildlife photographer, Andrey Gudkov, on his annual visit to the South of France, the images show the wild Camargue horses as they gallop through the lagoons and beautiful landscape of Aigues Mortes.

The breed are generally considered to be one of the oldest breeds of horse in the world and live wild in the harsh environment of the Camargue marshes and wetlands of the Rhône Delta.

The small lakes, marshes and shallow channels around the deserted seashore of Aigues Mortes make for a very interesting landscape in which to capture the fast and hardy horses.

Andrey said: “As the horses run along the beach this can also make for a very unusual picture, with beautiful splashes, speed and their manes in the wind.

“These horses are not aggressive at all. It’s perfectly safe to be there and they love people.

“I come to the South of France almost every year, in early May and the horse owners help me with my shoot when they collect in the horses morning and night.”
