Striking images of bull stampede in Bali where the animals are ridden on chariots for hours at a time
THESE striking images show a bull stampede in Bali where the animals are ridden on chariots for hours at a time.
The pictures – taken by photographer Claudio Sieber – shows dozens of jockeys taking part in the annual Jembrana Cup.
With $1,500 on offer for the winner of the Makepung-finals the races last for up to five hours at a time.
Photographer Claudio, 36, who is from Switzerland, took the pictures at the end of last year.
His images show the bulls marked with different coloured banners depending on where the animals are from in the country.
To win the race the chariots has surpass their rival by more than 10 metres.
Claudio said: “It might remind you spontaneously of ancient chariot racing.
“I found it quite remarkable how the farmers are able to steer their furious bulls along the 3 km long circuit without loosing track nor crashing into each other.
“The farmers compete in various open race circuits across Bali, leading up to the finals, or what has come to be known as the annually celebrated Jembrana Regent’s Cup.”
