Meet the real-life baby Baloo and Bagheera: Rescue bear and cat strike unlikely friendship!

A young bear and a cute kitten have struck up an adorable friendship – reminiscent of Jungle Book pals Baloo and Bagheera.

The little cub Ka Wao and George the cat live at the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) rescue centre in the south of the country.

Ka Wao is a big fan of the feline, who shares an enclosure with the three-month-old sun bear and her mother Gallamair.

Assistant director, Tom Taylor, said: “Ka Wao is a funny little bear who’s always up to mischief.

“We have several cats that live with them. The sun bears love the cats.”

Ka Wao parents, Gallamair and Kaka, have been at the centre for six years but because WFFT are against breeding in captivity they ensured Kaka was vasectomized.

However, the surgery was unsuccessfully and staff at WFFT got a surprise when Ka Wao was born.

Tom added: “George was friends with Gallamair before and now all three enjoy playing together.

“Because she doesn’t have brothers or sisters it’s good for Ka Wao to have a friend to play with.”

The Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand WFFT is a nationwide effort involved in rescuing domesticated and captive wild animals.

Sadly there are many sun bears at the sanctuary as they are often abandoned when their owners realised they aren’t suitable pets.
