The lively leopard cub was more than happy to lap up the limelight as she played up to the camera, striking a pose as she playfully swiped at the camera with her paw – giving the illusion of a selfie.

The amazing shot of the adorable leopard was taken by Australian wildlife photographer Shannon Benson, in South Africa.

Shannon, 36, said: “I shot several images trying to get the leopard to make eye contact as she swatted at the camera.

“When I looked back I was amazed to see it looked like she’d taken a selfie.

“I was beside myself with excitement.

“Even through the viewfinder I could see how beautiful and playful she was.

“There is always an element of risk when working with wildlife, but understanding animal behaviour helps, and being aware of the animal’s mood and body language tells you a lot about their state of mind.

“This leopard was hand-raised with her sister after their mother was killed by a snare – you could never get this close to a wild leopard.

“Leopards are considered the most unpredictable of big cats – this girl was almost a year old, if she was any older she would have been too wild too engage with, which is as it should be.

“It’s something I will always cherish.”
