Is this the work of pic-ass-o? – zoo accused of painting donkeys to look like zebras after animal’s stripes “melt”

This teenager received quite a shock when he visited his local zoo recently, as a strange animal he thought to be a “zebra” supposedly began to, well, melt.

Since Mahmoud A. Sarhan, 18, released images of what appear to be the animal’s stripes smudging, Cairo’s International Garden municipal park has been accused of zebra crossing the public, as people have discerned the animal was, in fact, a PAINTED DONKEY.

Other signs have left Mahmoud, his friends and family to assert that this was half-assed attempt to confuse visitors – such as the long, donkey-like ears of the animal, and a distinctive main.

The teenager visited the zoo on July 21, 2018, when he and his family took the photographs of the strange animal.

Mahmoud’s visit has since received somewhat of a viral response in the local media.

A number of vets have since responded to reports, saying that the animal is most likely a painted donkey – but the director of International Gardens Park, Mohamed Sultan, has denied the animal is a fake.

If confirmed, this would not be the first time a zoo has painted donkeys to pass them off as zebras.

In 2009, a zoo in Gaza reportedly painted two donkeys black and white to replace zebras that had died of starvation.

Mahmoud said: “We finished our tour then we decided to take some pictures.

“When we went to the zebras’ side, there was only one zebra.

“It came to us and the other one didn’t move, but when he came near to me, I realised from the first look that it was a painted donkey, not a zebra.

“People might realise that from the stripes.

“I sure felt shocked when people phoned me and asked me about this.”
