These pictures show just how small these animals are, even at maturity they reach the size of a rabbit, making it one of the smallest ungulates on earth.

As it stands up and follows its mother, the Java Mouse Deer’s legs are visibly extremely fragile and minute, but seeing as they are the smallest hoofed mammals in the world.

This baby will grow to a maximum weight of only about 5 pounds (2.5 kg) in adulthood, and its legs will be no bigger than the circumference of a pencil!

Mouse Deer are timid and solitary, and are seen here as the soft and shy animal they are prone to be; but their small features contribute to their cuteness and timid behaviour.
