Heart-warming snaps reveal bond between adorable baby orangutan and mum

These pics of an adorable baby orangutan and his mum will melt your heart.

The sweet snaps of Sumatran orangutan Rowan, which means ‘little red head’ show him being fed by affectionate zookeepers and then snuggling up to first-time mum Jahe.

To ensure the best possible care for Jahe, Rowan was born via C-section which was carried out by human obstetrician, Dr. Joseph C. DeWane and Memphis Zoo vets.

Dr DeWane said he was delighted to be part of bringing Rowan, who weighed a whopping 5lbs 4oz, into the world.

He said: “I was honoured to be a part of this historic event at the Memphis Zoo

“Our community is so blessed to have one of the top five zoos in the country.

“I know every time I visit the zoo, I will make a special trip to see Jahe and her baby.”

Due to her surgery Memphis Zoo animal and veterinarian staff hand-reared Rowan while she recovered, spending the daytime hours in the orangutan building with Jahe so she could see him.

After 12 days the first-time mum immediately picked Rowan up, held him and within 24 hours started nursing him – the pair have been inseparable ever since.
