Having a whale of a time! Daring divers get up close and personal with humpback whales!
How’s that for a selfie! Daring diver snaps an underwater picture of herself with a 40-ton whale.
Nadia Aly, 32, was leading a humpback whale tour in the pristine waters of Tonga in the Pacific Ocean when she captured the epic selfie.
She was photographing divers from the tour interacting with the pod of whales when just came within just five metres of one.
Ceasing the moment, Nadia quickly pulled out her camera and posed for a photo with the gentle giant.
Nadia, from Toronto, Canada, said she didn’t very often get a chance to photograph herself with the whales as she was always leading the tour.
She said: “I planned on taking pictures of humpback whales, but I didn’t plan on taking an epic selfie and whale interaction.
“As the group was taking photos of the whales, I noticed that I was close enough to try and get a selfie.
“I am always trying to get photos of my clients with the whales, so I don’t have a ton of pictures of myself with a whale, so I decided to try and get one on my own.
“I just turned the camera around and boom! Epic selfie.
“It’s always a pleasure when you get great shots of these gentle giants, let alone an epic selfie.
“These animals are some of the most graceful in our seas, and I feel the photos really highlight that feature.
“They really do interact with you — it’s like no other encounter you can have.
“You’ve got a 40-ton animal in your face, twisting and turning with delight.”
