Get a room! – Fascinating video shows sea horses mating
Check out this fascinating video that shows a pair of loved-up sea horses mating.
The two specimens dance swim towards each other, before the female seahorse inserts her eggs into the male’s pouch at the front of his body.
The mating style of a seahorse is considered unusual, as female transfers the eggs to the male, who then fertilises and gives birth to them.
The seahorse then can give birth to anything up to 1500 tiny seahorses, and they often mate for life.
Karen Hunt from Swindon filmed the video at her marine shop Aqualush, in Wiltshire.
Karen said: “I was overwhelmed to be able to witness this, as it was so graceful and magical.
“It’s very rare to witness the transfer as it’s often a very private affair.
“It seemed to be the most loving act I’d ever seen in sea life, and I was really happy that I was able to capture it and share it with others.
“The mating style is quite unusual too, so it’s fascinating to see it happen before my eyes.”
