Friendships of all stripes – Baby giraffe makes friends with a zebra
A cute baby giraffe was spotted making best friends with an inquisitive zebra.
Photographs show one-month-old Gus cosying up to Zebedee the zebra as he begins to explore his surroundings.
In a case of ‘like father like son,’ Gus’ father Gerald was also good friends with the Zebra and the pair were often spotted standing together.
The sweet duo are housed at Noah’s Ark Farm Zoo in Bristol.
A spokesperson for the zoo said: “In an interesting twist, Gus’s late father Gerald was friends with Zebedee from his younger years at the zoo, and the friendship now seems to have passed to Gerald’s son.
“After Gerald’s sad passing earlier this year, Gus has brought the family of giraffes here back to four. He has two siblings, George and Geoffrey, who are four and two.
“Giraffes are a protected species of conservation concern classified as ‘Vulnerable’ by the IUCN, under more threat than many people realise. Wild populations are suffering from a continuing decline, with 97,500 estimated in Africa in 2015.
“Since 1985 the total giraffe population has fallen by 35%.”
Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm is home to over 100 mammals, and attracts more than 200,000 visitors each year.
