Forget Grumpy Cat! Einstein look-alike moggie with long tongue becomes internet sensation
A cat with an unusually long tongue has become an online sensation, thanks to its uncanny resemblance to Albert Einstein.
Russian moggie Melissa, a five-year-old Scottish fold, bares a striking resemblance to Einstein in his most famous picture of him light-heartedly sticking his tongue out.
The cute cat loves dressing up in bow-ties and sunglasses and sticking her impressive tongue out for photos, which are posted to her Instagram page for thousands of followers.
Melissa’s reason for this cheeky gesture is slightly different however. She suffers from Osteochondrodysplasia, a degenerative disorder of the development of bone and cartilage which is common in the breed.
Owner Alina Esther, 22, noticed that her cat was special when people kept commenting on her remarkable tongue, pointing and laughing.
But Melissa is a real mummy’s girl and isn’t keen on people she doesn’t know, often hissing when strangers come into her house.
Alina said: “I have wanted a cat ever since I was a child. I came up with the name of my cat several years before her birth.”
“People who see Melissa’s photos often ask why her tongue is sticking out. The usual reaction of people is laughing and wondering.
Aline decided to use her cats imperfection as something positive – putting a bright and funny spin on it for the world to see.
She said: “I noticed Melissa sticking her tongue out when she was a few weeks old.
“Then it was a small tip of the tongue. But at the age of six months, she first started showing her famous “long” tongue.
“I noticed similarities between the photos of Melissa and Einstein a few years ago. I took one of her most famous photographs, and my friend said: “Hey, this is Einstein!”
“I only started the Instagram half a year ago. I was annoyed as I often saw her photos on the Internet, but no one knew her name and where she was from!”
