This eagle-eyed bird certainly had its eyes on the prize – as it jabbed at and teased a jackal to force it to leave a kill.

The tawny eagle came upon a jackal guarding a carcass in the Masai Mara, Kenya.

The bird teased the hungry mammal and constantly bugged it in an effort to put it off its food.

The surface-to-air animal combat was captured by German photographer Ingo Gerlach, 63, from Cologne.

Ingo said: “I was just setting down to some breakfast under an acacia tree when I suddenly caught a movement out of the corner of my eye.

“Through my binoculars I could see that a black-backed jackel was having a small aerial battle with a tawny eagle.

“The whole thing looked very playful.

“Obviously the jackal did not want to leave the remains of a kill to the eagle without a fight.

“For the same reason the eagle kept on attacking the jackal.

“The jackal defended itself with artistic jumps in the air, and the whole scene lasted about four minutes.”
