Colour The Elephant: Mammals’ Multicoloured Fight Caught On Camera
These differently hued elephants were snapped right in the middle of a multicoloured fight.
Sergey Savvi, 38, a wildlife photographer from Saint Petersburg, Russia, captured the mammals’ battles while visiting the Samburu National Reserve in Kenya.
The 38-year-old said the elephants – one of which was a different colour due to having taken a bath in red clay – were clashing over dominance, females or territory.
He said: “Bulls often assess each other’s strengths through sparring or play-fighting. Most likely these two bulls were from different groups.
“It was clear they had spent the day in different locations, as that’s why they different colours.
“The dark-coloured elephant had taken a bath of red clay – elephants do this to protect of their skin against sun, insects and parasites.
“It was an interesting moment to capture.
“I like to see a wildlife action and animals’ natural behaviour so I was happy to watch this.”
