Chimpl-y adorable! Meet Foxie the chimp who carries a toy troll with her wherever she goes!
These are the adorable images of Foxie the chimp who carries a toy troll with her wherever she goes.
Foxie, 40, is never seen without one of her large collection of toy trolls and cuddles, snuggles and plays with the bright-haired doll at the sanctuary in Washington where she now lives.
The dolls are said to bring comfort to Foxie who was unable to care for her four babies after they were taken away from her just days after they were born.
Foxie was used as a breeder during her time in biomedical research and had her infants cruelly snatched away before having an opportunity to raise them herself.
Luckily for Foxie, she was rescued in 2008 and is now being cared for at the Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest, in Washington, US.
Diana Goodrich, co-director of the sanctuary said when she gave Foxie her first troll to play with she was instantly in love, she hugged it snuggled with it and carried it around with her for weeks.
Diana, 43, said: “Foxie and six other chimpanzees were released from a private biomedical research, called Buckshire, where they had been warehoused for over a decade.
“Prior to that, Foxie had been used in hepatitis vaccine testing, and other experiments that we do not know the details of.
“Buckshire no longer wanted to own the chimpanzees – they weren’t making money off of them any longer because research using chimpanzees had decreased – and Foxie and her friends were just waiting for sanctuary space to open up.
“When Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest learned of the group of seven, we knew we could take them as a group.
“Shortly after the chimpanzees arrived, I brought a troll doll for them to play with.
“I was not thinking that Foxie would like the doll because she really didn’t play with any of the other toys that we had given the chimps, but as soon as she saw the troll doll, she was in love..
“She now has hundreds! All of Foxie’s dolls come from her fans and friends.
“Sometimes people send their own collections of troll dolls leftover from when they were young, or they find them on ebay or in garage sales.
“She carries them with her, often on her back or in her mouth. She plays with them – throwing them up in the air and catching them again.
“She tosses them to her human caregivers and we give them back to her as a little game.
“The chimps other chimps sometimes rip the troll’s hair off, but Foxie still likes them bald, and we’ve used the hollow space in troll doll bodies to put treats or smoothie in for the chimps to enjoy.”
