A cheeky seal jumped on to an occupied kayak before throwing some serious side-eye when the rower questioned why.

While paddling through Deep Cove in British Columbia, Canada, on August 7, Karen Mikado was visited by a very inquisitive pup.

After scanning the surface with its eyes poking out of the water, the seal clumsily clambered on to the front of the boat having to shimmy its body a couple of times.

When Karen dares to ask what the precocious pup is doing, it throws a quick look of contempt to her with its right eye.

Karen, from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, said: “It was one cheeky seal but I didn’t mind.

“It was really cool experience, nothing like that has happened before to me.

“We didn’t feel afraid as the pup wasn’t aggressive.

“Mine was the first kayak it jumped on before it made its way around about three others for 20 minutes or so.”

Karen was visiting a friend who lives on the shoreline and they said they had never had anything like this happen to them.

Karen said: “One of our group is a local guide they said they hadn’t seen this happen before so I felt privileged.

“We noticed the seal following us for about 10 minutes, and then as I was recording, he popped up on my kayak.

“After jumping on to the front and back about three times, he started jumping up on the other kayaks in our group.

“He was up and down about 15-20 times in all, and paused a few minutes each time to check us out.

“I feel like the seal felt it was safe so he swam around us for about 10 minutes before he jumped on my kayak the first time.”
