Brave little guy! Amazing images of lilac breasted roller enjoying a deadly dinner
This bird’s hunger definitely trumped safety as it devoured a truly deadly dinner – a SCORPION!
But the lilac breasted roller didn’t throw all caution to the wind as the clever multicoloured bird strategically removed the venomous stinger before chomping down the scorpion.
The incredible moment was captured by Liverpool-born photographer Charlie Lynam, 57, in Ruaha National Park, Tanzania.
When he saw the colourful bird wrestling with the scorpion Charlie, who now lives between Bath and Umbabat Game Reserve, South Africa, was quick to snap some images from his car.
Charlie said: “It was a total surprise, in fact I didn’t realise it was a scorpion until I saw the pics.
“The Lilac Breasted Roller was wresting the scorpion and the action was fast. The photos froze the action.
“The Roller started to whack what turned out to be a scorpion against the ground as hard as it could. It was big scorpion, capable of delivering a deadly sting
“The brave little guy had a clear strategy; neutralise the enemy’s firepower and then lunch! Once the scorpion was effectively overpowered, he tossed it in the air a few times for good measure before eventually eating it.”
