Bloody but unbowed: lion proves he’s the mane man after defeating mating rival to win back his lioness

A bloodied lion emerges triumphant after successfully beating a mating rival in a vicious fight.

With blood spilling from his nose the victorious mammal proved he was the MANE man – reclaiming the admiration of his lioness.

The fierce scrap was captured by wildlife photographer Margot Raggett in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya.

She was tracking the area just two weeks ago after hearing there was a pair of mammals nearby.

Having been unable to find the pair, Margot decided to follow a lone female – figuring that she was one of the two.

And while following this lioness the photographer, who lives in London, discovered the other pair which the lioness decided to approach.

Out of the bushes an angry male – vying for affection – came bounding over threatened by the other male who he met head-on.

Margot said: "I have to say it was the most incredible sighting of my life."

“It was totally unexpected and then the noise and the ferocity took me totally by surprise.

“In all it lasted less than a minute and after it was over I could hardly believe what I’d just witnessed.”
