Adorable squirrel playtime

SQUIRREL FIGHT

These squirrels look like they couldn’t be happier as they play and fool around together!

The cute critters even appeared to smile at one another during their game of tomfoolery.

Photographer Wim van den Heever was on hand to capture the playful pair while at Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in Botswana.

He said: “We were sitting at a waterhole waiting for some animals to come down and drink, but while we were waiting there we spotted a ground squirrel hole nearby.

“We watched them for hours, coming in and out of the hole, playing and even hunting for insects and foraging for seeds.

“They were very shy and raced back into their burrow, so we sat as quietly as we could, hoping to catch some of the action.

“The squirrels came out of the hole and there was this crazy action for a while where they were just playing and having fun when I took these photos.

“The squirrel action happens incredibly fast, you can’t even see what is going on until you look at the pictures afterwards.

“We set up about 20m away, with long lenses so we could give the squirrels space to interact naturally and then to catch the fast action on my long lens.

“When I saw the images I was really excited to see how their interaction was similar to human type interactions.”
