A sea lion walks into a bar… baby sea lion rescued after wondering into a bar
Punters at a bar were left stunned after a SEA LION joined them for a drink.
The young pup sought refuge at Beach Ball Bar in Newport Beach, California, USA, last week after wondering through a parking lot.
Now named Beach Ball after the joint, the lost sea lion was taken to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach.
They found the sea lion weighed just 42lbs, less than half the healthy weight for a pup his age and treated him for an eye infection.
Manager of the bar Sonia Warner said: “The little fella was very cute – it was just sad we couldn’t let him in and had to stop him with bar stools.
“He’s doing well now and the center are doing a wonderful job.
“They house over 125 baby sea lion so he has lots of friends to play with.”
According to the bar website the pup had fallen asleep on the stairs by the time Animal Control rescued him after his long trek looking for food.
It posted: “The officer gently wrapped him in a towel and took him away without incident.
“Hopefully he will fatten up before being released again.”
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration revealed there has been a spike in stranded sea lions in California.
They put it down to warmer temperatures in the Pacific Ocean which leads female sea lions venturing further away from their young in search of food.
But fortunately Beach Ball is expected to make a full recovery and be released into the ocean in six months’ time.
